Painting the Wild Violets

Inspired by the profusion of vioIets this year, we’ve had buckets of rain… I created a few different options for my students to paint in our first class this summer.

I decided to demo the violet with it’s root revealed, botanical style, for the class.

I was inspired by this video, below, to have everyone warm up- painting very loose- using colors of the violet.

And always I encourage time spent getting to know the subject by drawing and painting thumbnail sketches.
